Apple Chase by Michael Michael had a dog named Apple, with whom he loved to play chase. He executed the painting at left from memory using black and white pigments, the color of Apple's coat, although he had a large selection of colors to choose from. BIRD by Koko Koko seems to have painted her pet fledgling blue jay from memory. We rescued the bird from the nearby highway after a storm. Koko named the bird Tongue because of its protuberant tongue - the scrawny bird was always hungry and Koko enjoyed feeding it. MYSELF by Michael This rainbow of color is Michael's self portrait. Interestingly, his painting of his teacher, Tyler, was almost identical. His painting Gorilla used the same palette. TYLER by Michael Michael's portrait of his teacher and close friend, Tyler. Interestingly, the colors Michael chose for his self-portrait are almost identical. ANGER by Michael This was the result when Michael was asked to paint his interpretation of the emotion anger. LOVE by Koko This was the result when Koko was asked to paint her interpretation of the emotion love. STINK GORILLA MORE by Michael Michael's teacher Tyler brought a bouquet of flowers, picked from the grounds of the Foundation, as a still life for Michael to paint. The gorillas use the sign "stink" to mean flower as well as odor. The bouquet was large, so Michael signed more in titling his work. http://www.koko.org/kids/index.html
